SSL Alpha 8 – New Audio Interface Expander with ADAT, S/PDIF and USB Support Now Available

25 May , 2025

Solid State Logic (SSL) has officially unveiled its new Alpha 8 audio interface expander, which was announced at NAMM 2025. The device combines 8 channels of analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion and can operate as a USB interface with an 18-in, 18-out configuration. The new product is a great match for the recently released SSL 18 interface, and can also expand the capabilities of any interface that supports ADAT or S/PDIF.

Professional audio from SSL is now even more affordable

The Alpha 8 features state-of-the-art 32-bit converters with sampling rates up to 192 kHz, providing SSL’s signature sound, high accuracy and stable operation. The company claims that the device has a huge dynamic range, ultra-low harmonic distortion (THD+N), minimal crosstalk and an extremely low noise floor. All analog inputs and outputs operate at line level, making the Alpha 8 an ideal solution for advanced studios with external analog equipment, synthesizers, drum machines and other sound sources.

 Flexible routing and full integration

Each of the Alpha 8’s analog channels can be individually set to +9, +18, +20, or +24 dBu levels, making it easy to connect vintage synths, mixers, 500-series modules, and other professional gear. ADAT, S/PDIF, and Word Clock are available digitally, and each can act as a master clock source. An internal clock is also provided for stand-alone operation.

The unit can be used in a variety of ways: as a bidirectional converter between analog and digital protocols, as a full-fledged 18-in/18-out USB interface, or as a combination of these options.
